WINNERS! ---and The Dark Lord Fancy Pants is Spotted

If you have not read the contest ENTRIES, you should They are HYSTERICAL. They are in the comments section of THIS ENTRY.

And NOW! For contestian resultions, here is my dear friend Lydia:

"A couple of comments, having read the entries. Some of you dropped a little grit, there, into the honey. Edgy group. Bit testy. Bit angry.

I want to know more about what Marleigh does for a living, having read The Diamond Age. I promise not to mod my son’s copy of Reader Rabbit Phonics.

I enjoyed Tracy’s description of the unschooler, with feral children and goat milk.

I appreciated Amy-GO’s adherence to the form of the original article, with synonyms dissected for their various connotations.

I really liked Amy’s last line, about the screenwriter getting her friends tickets and lap privileges.

I liked Autumn’s tone, and the haunting phrase, “Weird smelly feet.”

The five finalists: Angela (Preschool teacher), Dragonfly (Work from home), Cathy (Conservationist), David (Machinist), DLFP (Marketer)

1. Dragonfly
2. David
3. Cathy

I was richly entertained by reading all these. Remember, when we make assumptions, we make asses of ourselves and umption.
Love,
LYDIA"

THANKS LYDIA! YOU ARE MY FAVORITE.

If you won, send me a snail address and I will send you your rightful LOOT.

ALSO, finalist DLFP is DARK LORD FANCY PANTS!!! a gaming friend of mine from FOREVER, and in honor of this rare DLFP sighting, I am going to tell you what commercials are good:

1) I'm a mac, I'm a PC. Best commercials EVER. EVER. So good, I kinda want a MAC now, and I am a gamergeek so I have been a PC girl from the way back back. ALSO! That former geek? From that show...I think it was called Ed? Well! He grew up to be HIP, who would have thought???
2) The fit is go. Because the fit IS go.
3) The one where the crab says, I PINCH. Because I like the crab's accent.
4) The one where the guy's cell phone comes with many features, including "crime deterrent." If you haven't seen it, I won't ruin it for you here. But. Watch TV starting NOW until you see it.

Now I will tell you what commercials are bad: All the other ones.

Did I miss any good ones?

Those winning entries are GREAT, but then so are the lo- I mean, non-wining entries! :) No losers here... 'cept maybe those of us who didn't enter :(

*shocked look* I won? *followed by silly, crooked smile* I won! Eeeeeeee! *does happy dance*

I'm so flattered! So honored! So tripped out!

Thank you, Lydia! And Joshilyn!

And did I say? Eeeeeeeeeee!

Congratulations to the winners (from the horribly disorganized who didn't enter)

I love the Mac/PC commercials too! And yeah, the Mac guy used to be on Ed (moment of silence for a great-but-gone TV show)

Love the new design here! I am trying to make it through my complete blogroll (which you are on - would love to hear from you over there) before I head out of town to flower the dead folk LOL Hope you have a fabulous Memorial Day (gotta be better than Mother's Day - right?)

you deserve it David, well done!

Posted by: diane at May 24, 2006 8:38 AM

Congrats to the winners!

re commercials: the only one of those I've ever seen is the Mac/PC one, which is funny. I almost always hit the mute button during commercials, so I usually don't know there's a good one out there until someone alerts me and I start watching for it.

Posted by: DebR at May 24, 2006 9:52 AM

I love the one where the guy wears the little green shorts and says to his daughter and her friend, Hey, Dad's lost some weight, who wants ice cream? I won't bother describing what makes it funny, because it will be so much funnier if you watch it. And it is so funny. I'm not even totally sure why, but it is SO FUNNY to me.

I don't know if this is a GOOD commercial, but the damn Dunkin Donuts commercial song for frozen drinks has become an ear worm for me. They sing "The back of my legs/ Are sticking to the pleather!"

Oh, but the funniest I've seen lately is the MacGyver MasterCard Commercial. Go see it here: http://tinyurl.com/akm7c FUNNY!

Oh My Dog. I won?! I won! *joins David in the happy dance*

Thank you, Lydia! Joshilyn!

I'm so excited!!! I have to go squee now!

Thank you Lydia and Joshilyn!

Being a TiVo addict, I don't see that many commercials. But may I nominate one for the *worst* commercial award? It's the "Who does depression hurt?" ad, with the sad dog sitting by the front door with its leash in its mouth. Yeah, because when you're battling depression, you need a dog with hurt feelings to be *one* *more* *thing* to feel guilty about.

OMG the "crime deterrent" commercial is freaking hilarious, I burst into laughter and scared my son.

Posted by: Heather Cook at May 24, 2006 4:57 PM

Congrats to the winners -- must go pout about no Between ARC. Seriously, though, it was a hoot reading all the entries, and the winners did a great job. My vote for worst commercials goes to Burger King. Every single commercial they have, but particularly the ones with the freaky-ass plastic Burger King devil puppet. CREEPY.

Posted by: Aimee at May 24, 2006 6:35 PM

Commercials? well, McGyver, of course, and the drain cleaner (couple murmuring Frenchily over a cafe table, when a black THING lands on the cloth ... and the American couple wonder "where does it go???) ... oh, and the baby elephant, puddle-splashing to 'Singing in the Rain' (GE-imagination at work) which is on RIGHT NOW ...
Catchy advertising works ... after 50+ years I remember many tv-ads from when I was a kid.

OMG, what Aimee said! I think that Burger King dude is the creepiest thing ever - EVER on TV. He's worse than the Snuggle bear and I never thought I'd say that about anything. I think every BK commercial looks like the start of a slasher film. I want to tell everyone else on the screen to run...RUN! And for the love of pete, don't look back, or drop your keys, or look in dark closets or anything.

(The Snuggle bear commercials seem to me like the start of Chuckie-but-even-worse slasher films.)

I see someone already posted about my very favorite crime deterrent commercial. I saw it for the first time the other day and actually laughed out loud. If you knew me, you would know that commercials almost never make me laugh. I told my husband I need that phone now! Oh, and I think my husband has been taking lessons from your husband...does he have some sort of secret school where he teaches these things?

Posted by: tori at May 26, 2006 8:43 AM

okay...love the PC/Mac's...had NO idea that was the EdGeek...kept thinking...he looks like Jimmy Fallon...but I can't place him...

true confessions...I love the Jimmy Dean commercials...where the dad is the sun "and has to be at work early to light and heat the world." I think those are very funny...

and also love the crime deterrent!

I am SO excited to even be a FINALIST!!!! (No seriously....I don't CARE That I didn't win...well, okay, I CARE, but not so much that I want to gouge my eyes or cry or plot against you guys or anything)

All of those entries were SO. FREAKIN. HILARIOUS. To have even been considered mildly amusing is quite humbling and I am honored.

Thank you SO much Lydia and Joss!!

Posted by: Angela at May 26, 2006 11:58 AM

I really ONLY cared even the teeniest bit because I was hoping to get the Mint from Joshilyn's desk.

Posted by: Angela at May 26, 2006 11:59 AM

*pout* I have yet to see this crime deterrent phone commercial.

The only BK commercial that I find remotely entertaining is the newest with all the guys singing. Also -- no one mentioned the Citi identity theft commercials. The one with the two grandmas talking about having bought motorcycles - too funny.

Posted by: dragonfly at May 26, 2006 1:19 PM

Big "nice dones" to all the entries -- way funny stuff.

There used to be a beer comercial where a sweaty guy ended up doing the cha-cha with his harlequin Great Dane -- it was fantastic. All other beer comercials, however, stink.

Posted by: debra at May 26, 2006 11:59 PM

I *love* the Fed-Ex commercial with the cavemen. Also, the Geico commercials with the cavemen. I'm going through a prehistoric phase.
