Strange Attractions

Mir is here for the nonce -- we are doing our own private version of BlogHer with Kira who is joining us on Friday. We've spent the day doing my second favorite kind of shopping, i.e. "fingering things you can't afford to buy and googling at things you can't even afford to finger." *grin* We went to a lot of little weirdo gallery-ish antique-y shops in Midtown and then Virginia Highlands, .

Meanwhile, in case you hadn't picked up on it, we're both a little ... odd. There was this ABC show called Relativity that was on in mid-nineties; Only three people watched, so they cancelled it. We discovered, much to our delight, that we were two of the watchers. (Here's the third guy....)

We also discovered, much to our chagrin, that we both secretly (well it WAS secretly) think that Stephen Collins is sexy. Okay, well, no. Mir said cute, or maybe attractive. I upped the anti to sexy. BUT HE IS. In a strange way. As I said to Mir, he's sexy the way Ward Cleaver would have been sexy, if Ward Cleaver had been sexy at all.

Here's a little known Stephen "Smokin' Daddy-O" Collins fact: He also writes thrillers...

MEANWHILE, in absolutely unrelated news, I have this old ROBOT toy. He is about three feet tall and SO old. I got him when I was three, because my seven year old brother got one from Santa, and I wanted one too...*sigh* Anyway, I always loved that Robot. I named him "Robot" and he was my friend. Sam recently found him in my mom's attic and brought him home, but he pretty much broke the horns off of him and then forgot him. Maisy, however, LOOOOOOOVES Robot. She thinks Robot is the bomb. Sadly, she impugns Robot's personal dignity, AND she may be giving him a gender identity crisis...this is what I found in the playroom this morning:

He needs a sword or a gun or something.

Or is that 'she?'

Have fun fingering, you two!

Harvey Fierstein's playing Tevye on Broadway. Robot's just balancing the boat.

How do you Robot isn't female?

Fun, fun. I'm in Atlanta, too (well for another 16 hours or so). Wish I could meet up with y'all.

Harvey Fierstein's playing Tevye on Broadway?

Wait, I thought Alfred Molina (aka Dr. Octopus) was playing Tevya, and Harvey Fierstein was doing Hairspay? What crack monkey of a casting agent would replaced Alfred with Harvey?

Anyway, in response to ben "Robot" has buzz saws built in to each arm.

Given his current morale at finding himself in a ballerina tutu I'm sure he'd agree with Maisy's pronunciation of his name... Woe-bot.

Have fun, you guys.

I guess I am the third person who watched Relativity. I also think Steven Collins is sexy, even as a preacher on 7th Heaven. Don't worry about Robot, gender identity is a social construction.

Oh my gosh Robot made me pee my pants. Well... almost pee my pants. He's strangely intriguing in a Feminazi-bot sort of way.

(S)He's like a decoy for potential serial rapist toys.. in disguise waiting for someone to attack while (S)He is in a helpless state of one-shoe-on-one-shoe-off.

Ha - I watched Relativity too. :)

I loved all the Herskovitz and Zwick shows.

Alfred Molina WAS playing Tevye, until replaced by Harvey Fierstein last winter. Also, it's just been announced that Rosie O'Donnell will be playing his wife, Golde starting next month. So, who is the robot balancing????

I'm impressed - two "breastular" women in the same place at the same time - is is exponential or logarithmic? Either way, Mr. Husband better be careful.

And Rosie O'Donnell is playing Golde!!! With Harvey Fierstein! I happen to think this is BRILLIANT casting, if we can understand one word Harvey says. The thought of Rosie singing "Do You Love Me?" is exquisite. "....go inside, GO LIE DOWN!!!" that's going to be a whole show right there.

Robot is not fat enough to play Tevye, and too....purple to play Golde. Maybe Robot can sing in the chorus?

that is too funny.

I have already commented to Mir that I am very saddened to not be allowed to be a fly on the wall. I do hope you are all having fun, even if I can't accidently overhear all of the juicy blog talk.

The robot's outfit? What is the problem? I think he is perfectly dressed for a night of vigilante justice, myself. Who would say they were beaten up by a robot in a dress?

I am chartruse with envy! I think of all the GO-ing I could be enjoying with you and Mir and once again I say...curses! Still in Kansas!
Have a wonderful time...if your shopping yields anything as fabulous as Woe-bot's new outfit it will be successful indeed! :)

He is sort of hot. Never noticed before.

Posted by: Heather at August 11, 2005 11:49 PM

Ohmigod - get out, Stephen Collins, way good. God don't egg me or boo, but what about Bradley Whitford of West Wing. Tell me it's not the menopause please, the guy floats my boat. What happened to the days when it was hot rockers - or a young Val Kilmer that got me? Now it is Stephen Collins and Bradley Whitford - and dont' get me started on Sam Elliots voice. Keep him, just give me the voice... well no...er

Purple and red, isn't Maisy a little young for that combination? Oh missed the pink at first, the Universe is alright. Joss your girl rocks. Love the slippers.

::::trying to breathe:::::: That robot is hysterical!

After further reflection, I think this is a true FemBot.

I loved that show, it's were I learned that the space above your lip and below your nose was considered by some to be your "Flume".

It has just now occurred to me that I'm being called a strange attraction.

Aren't you glad I'm so slow on the uptake?
