We Interrupt This Total Inability to Blog with a CONTEST

Blog sels pb people quoteSO—the paperback of SELS launches in a month. LOOK at this easter-y cover. I kinda love it.

In Pre-Celbratory Celebration, I have a contest, open to US peeps only please. SORRY, CANADA! I LOVE you Canada, but you are expensive and form-filling-out-y to mail things at. SORRY REST OF EARTH. I love you, too, Rest of Earth, but I can’t mail to you. I can barely make soup. YAY!

(The mental illness number is…stratospheric. The coping skills are set to maximum. LA LA LA.)

HERE IS THE CONTEST THOUGH! What is your favorite line from Someone Else’s Love Story? Post them in the comments here OR on my facebook page, and my Publisher will pick three on 7/11 to make into designed images I’ll share ALL OVER the tweeterverse and here and on the facebook, too.

Also, I will mail those SAME three that WILLIAM MORROW picks a brand new daisy-fresh ultra-purple Easterish copy of the SELS trade paperback PLUS another backlist title. Signed and whanot, yo. BOOYAH.

GO!

  • Hard to pick just one, but I will go with this, because it reads like a short poem.

“He was so beautiful. He wasn’t mine.”

  • Brigitte

Mine is more about Shandi’s dawning realization, when she says:
“Wall-caught?” I guessed, and then I heard what it sounded like, out loud.

“I’ve never had an angel on my right shoulder; I was born with a pointy-tailed devil, who crept back and forth across my neck to get his whispers into both my ears.”

  • Sharon

“Sometimes karma takes years to pay a person back, but that day, it had a fast backhand return…”

  • Linda J

I only have the audio so I’m not sure of the exact wording but where the nun in the park says its a love story…it still is. I SO LOVED THAT.

  • Carrie

I didn’t get a fairy godmother or even a discount talking cricket bug to be my conscious.

  • Ann P

Last year, I’d almost killed my Baptist father by sending Natty to preschool at Mimmy’s Baptist church.

  • Ann P

Correction: “Last year, I’d almost killed my Jewish father by sending Natty to preschool at Mimmy’s Baptist church.”

  • Andrea

“That’s when I noticed she’d taken down the Praying Hands Jesus who’d been hanging over the sofa for as long as I’d had concrete memory. She’d replaced him with a Good Shepherd version who stopped me dead in the middle of the stairs.

The new Jesus looked exactly like her.

He was super pretty, slim and elegant. He was backlit, too,
standing in front of a meadow instead of a kitchen, cradling a lamb instead of a spatula. My mother had never once gone into direct sunlight without a hat and SPF 50, and this Jesus shared her ivory-bloom complexion. I looked more Jewish than he did. They had the same rich brown hair glowing with honey-gold highlights, the same cornflower blue eyes cast sorrowfully upward to watch me struggle a fifty-pound duffel down the stairs. Neither offered to give me a hand.”

“Love stories start with a kiss or meet-cute, not with someone getting shot in a gas station minimart.”

LOVE. IT. :D. “Meet-cute” might be the best hyphenated word ever.

  • I vote for:

“Betrayal is always ugly, even on a shaded patio full of little birds.”

  • Lydia

That afternoon in the Circle K, I deserved to know, right off, that I had landed bang in the middle of a love story. Especially since it wasn’t— it isn’t— it could never be, my own.

  • I fell in love with William Ashe at gunpoint, in a circle K…

  • I vote for:

“I fell in love with William Ashe at gunpoint, in a Circle K.”

  • Jennie

“I do believe in the possibility of goodness.”

  • I agree with Kathy. I LOVE “I’ve never had an angel on my right shoulder; I was born with a pointy-tailed devil, who crept back and forth across my neck to get his whispers into both my ears.” Love it because it’s so perfectly Shandi’s voice (as is the entire novel, but this one particularly stands out to me.)

  • Susan

    I second Lydia!

That afternoon in the Circle K, I deserved to know, right off, that I had landed bang in the middle of a love story. Especially since it wasn’t— it isn’t— it could never be, my own.

  • Vicki

    I haven’t read it yet! That’s why I should win a copy!!!

  • Lynn in Texas

So many to choose, but I’ll say: “Both of us were caught under the black eye of that pistol. And yet, seventeen seconds later, before I so much as knew his name, I’d fallen dizzy-down in love with him.”

  • Kate Moon

“These are not mutually exclusive states of being.”

  • Anella Harmeyer

“It’s one thing to decide what you want. It’s quite another to know how to get it.”

  • “Miracle is another word for magic, and magic is only science, unexplained.”

“No one could make the world safe. No one on this blue ball was ever safe for even a second.”
