TEN — The number of years, more or less, that Lydia Netzer spent writing SHINE SHINE SHINE, her amazing book about motherhood, love, autism, robots, and what it means to be human.

“Over the moon with a metaphysical spin. Heart-tugging…it is struggling to understand the physical realities of life and the nature of what makes us human….Nicely unpredictable…Extraordinary.” —Janet Maslin, The New York Times. And Amazon has chosen SHINE SHINE SHINE as THE Spotlight Book in their best books of the month, calling it “A Suberb Debut.” So it’s rich and thick and tasty and nourishing but also?

It’s hella entertaining.

NINE – Number of CDs in the audiobook. NINE disks chock full of commuting or treadmill or housework pleasure! I read the audio version, and so far the response has been warm and positive, including a rave review for both book and reading from Audiofile Magazine, where it is also an editor’s pick. It’s “Hot Stuff” in Girlfriend’s Magazine, and a recommended summer listen in the Sacramento Bee.

EIGHT – The minimum number of copies you should buy and distribute among your most beloved and worthy friends.

SEVEN – For the next SEVEN days, I am going to be doing SHINE SHINE SHINE themed things—Just think of this place as Shine-r Than Shine-zu. There will be multiple give-aways, inserted in and among regular blogs to celebrate.

SIX — I never liked this number. I SHUN THEE, SIX. I think it is the CURVED BACK, so secretive, and the way it is hunched over it’s full front pocket. SIX is hiding something. Six does not share. Six is kind of a tool.

FIVE — I am linking to FIVE ways to buy SHINE SHINE SHINE: Order from your local Indie—or just go by today and pick it up, as I am doing or click over to Amazon or Barnes and Noble or Books-A-Million. Of course, all these places ALSO have the audio for sale on CD, or you can download it from places like Audible dot com!

FOUR — Number of minutes I have left to POST THIS before I have to take Maisy to VBS, so pls to forgive any number of hellacious typos, I CANNOT proof it!

THREE— The number of questions Lydia answered in an exclusive, charming, and off-beat interview I will post later this week.

TWO —- The number of minutes I NOW have left to hit post, and I have not uploaded the IMAGES! GAH! STUPID OVERSLEEPING!

ONE — We have LIFT OFF. Launch day is today. Lydia Netzer, I wish you and your amazing book the best.

  • THANK YOU!!! This is your book, babe. You plucked it up out of my hands and made it happen by sheer force of your will. I salute you.

  • I will have to check it out.

  • As directed I’ll be listening to the audiobook very soon. I loved chapter 1 in a preview, so no doubt this book will be a winner!

  • Like there was any doubt, but I’m all over this. It shall be mine and in my ears very soon!

  • Kerry

This is the BEST book!!! So excited for Lydia . . .

  • Aimee

EEeeee! It has been auto-delivered to my Kindle and I can’t wait to start reading. Congratulations, Lydia!!

I just bought the audiobook over at Audible and can’t wait to hear it!

BUT Joshilyn and Lydia, without the link from this blog I wouldn’t have been able to find it there very easily – searching by author was a no-go (NASA humor). Maybe they need to be badgered about this so others can track it down easily. Also, I learned that the auto-correct for Netzer is Nether. (the nether regions of space). Cool. Anyway, the book sounds fantastic and it’s going to distract me wonderfully as I listen to it while cleaning house and beating back the laundry today.

  • I ordered it for my Kindle and it should be delivered today. Conveniently, I’m between books right now, so looks like this is next up. Honestly, my purchase was as much about your enthusiasm for the book as for the wonderfully odd description in Amazon.

And I always thought 6 looked like a pregnant woman curved lovingly around her belly. Funny how we see things…

  • Loved the Audible preview so I’m going to get this in my ears very soon. Tonight. After the launch. Speaking of, I am SO excited to witness this Shindig book launch thing.

However, I must now defend Six. Six is my birthday day and it is so NOT secretive or withholding or vile in any way. Six is a nurturer. Six can be shy. Six is holding and protecting a little bundle of goodness to keep it safe. This is absolutely true and I am not the only one who says so.

According to Numerology, “The number 6 is the ‘Mother’ number and is essentially a working, building number. It symbolizes responsibility and service, which needs to be achieved through love, nurturing and protection. There is an innate desire within the 6 to bring harmony, peace, justice and truth to all experiences in life…People are drawn to the loving, magnetic energy of the 6 vibration.”

    Just sayin’

I have a Very Trying Ordeal of just waiting for hours ahead of me– and I think I know how I’m going to make it through!

  • Linda J

    I’m downloading it now!!!

  • Jill W.

I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy of the book, and I LOVED it. I have been recommending it all over the place.

It has been so much fun getting watching the progression of this book from the day you announced “my best friend just got a book contract!” here on FTK to the day of publication. Essentially, she started out as a “story character” here (that was the two of you who hiked uphill to a cabin in the snow wearing flip flops, right?) . And now I have become a fan of her writing too via her blog/fb and now her novel with its own distinctly wonderful writer’s voice and story. FUN FUN FUN

Got the auto-email notice that my copy of the audiobook is in the hands of the USPS as of today! Looking very much forward to it. (Just wish the USPS were faster…and not shipping from way down in Arizona?!!)

  • Oh, man! I’m so excited! I get to go on a road trip with five kids (three, of which are mine own) for TEN hours. In ONE direction. I will be piping Joss’s voice reading Lydia’s prose whilst I drive. I. CANNOT. WAIT! WEEEEEEEEE! (squeed like Leisel in the Sound of Music)

Just finished Shine, Shine, Shine. Thank you for the enthusiastic recommendation. i would never have found this book without JJ, and it was a great summer read.
