Linktastica Guestblog, or, An Ansley Deferred

The A GROWN UP KIND OF PRETTY tour is all Alabama, all the time this week…Mobile, Fairhope, Montgomery, Birmingham! Please come out and see me, even if it stinking rains. Again. We can have fun even if we all come slightly premoistened.

Come February 9, at The Alabama Booksmith, VBS ends, so you cannot put it off ordering your signed, personalized first editions any longer. You know you want to participate. Look at the shiny crystal. Back and forth. Yesssss. Yessss. Sleeepyyyyy. Follow this link!

If you just scratched your head and said, “By VBS does she mean Vacation Bible School and if I follow that link will I be expected to know all the words to I’M IN THE LORD’S ARMY and to salute and make airplane arms and pretend to ride an invisible horse as I musically fight Satan?” Then 1) we had similar childhoods, and 2) Not required, but I would like to see that, actually, and 3) You can go HERE to get the skinny.

For my felow writers in the Best-Belove-O-Verse, I am talking process over on Writer Unboxed. I like the interview—-not your gramma’s same old writing questions.

I am guest blogging today over on JUNGLE RED. It’s a blog about the tricks we play on our own brains to get out of doing the hard stuff, so come on over and join in the discussion. I’ll be hanging out like a derelict in the comments section, and you can enter to win a free copy of PRETTY.

Tomorrow we will pick up with the Importance of Being Ansley, NO REALLY. Reallyreally. Already written and loaded to autopost. So sock me no pinks, Beloveds, and pink me no socks.

Thanks. Now I’m sitting here and my brain is going, “I’m in the Lord’s Army! Yes sir! I’m in the Lord’s Army! Yes sir!” That is not where I wanted my brain to go tonight. Sigh.

Am I the only one who isn’t finding your guest blog post through the linky-link?

  • Thanks for mentioning Story Dam, Joshilyn! We appreciate it. And thanks for an awesome interview!

  • DebR

I may never march in the infantry, ride in the calvary, shoot the artillery; I may never fly o’er the enemy, but I’m in the Lord’s Ar-myyyyyyyy….”
You’ll just have to picture the airplane arms. 🙂
    Off to check out links!

Brigitte- I don’t see the guest blog either.

I heartily enjoyed the New Orleans reading and signing, thoroughly premoistened though we were. : )

  • The link is active, but it’s not Writer Unboxed. I know, because I went, “Hello? How did this wonderfulness happen?”

If it’s not working for other people, here it is: http://storydam.com/2012/02/01/author-unbound-4-joshilyn-jackson/

The Writer Unboxed interview link worked for me.
The Jungle Red not so much. (I mean, it worked as far as taking me to the blog, but I saw nothing Joshilynish there.)

PPPPPS….I KNEW I was spelling cavalry wrong, but only just figured out HOW I was spelling it wrong now that I see my previous comment. Still, given that it’s a VBSish song, I think the misspelling was very Freudian. Or something. Heh.

  • Whoopsiiie.I can’t fix it as I am posting this from my phone about to go to a lunch….it will be on jungle red tomorrow. Heh.

  • And when you were eight you probably said calvary instead of cavalry, amiright? Or maybe that’s just me.

  • Ruth

VBS will ALWAYS mean Vacation Bible School to me because I am a church secretary. But the song I have stuck in my head now isn’t the Lord’s Army one, it’s this: “The B I B L E! Yes, that’s the book for me! I stand alone on the Word of God, the B I B L E!” Which, sentiment aside, is just too friggin’ cheerful for a rainy Tuesday morning.

  • Glory Words

Just orderd the three first eds I don’t yet have signed copies of yet!! So excited!! Now I’ll have a full set! And I already can’t wait for your next book!!!!!

  • Jessica

Geez, Joshilyn and Ruth! Now I have both “I’m in the Lord’s Army” and “The B-I-B-L-E” stuck in my head. Wait, wait…dangit. Now it’s morphed to “Father Abraham.” I’m going to go sing one of those to my husband, so he can join me in VBS song earworm misery. ;~)

I’m already signed up for the Joss version of VBS (and it’s in the winter! Yay for something fun in the cold!), and I can’t wait to read it. I’m hearing tons of good comments about it already.

  • HULLO. . .
“She is hard at work on a new novel titled SOMEONE ELSE’S LOVE STORY, expected in 2014.” I KNOW about the new book and your starry night author grotto (not to be confused with your forest sex lair). . .but I didn’t know there was a title!!!! SO. EXCITING. Except I feel I have failed as a Beloved, because I missed it. Ack! Loved the links–and THIS “. . .where she cut a swath through the place with her funny stories and incredible insight. . .” That’s some high praise, ma’am.

  • And at the last two congregations I have atteneded–I have been taught various and sundry “styles” of The Lord’s Army that, though quite humorous, I’m sure are equally blasphemous. Just sayin’.

  • Michelle-who-is-Shelley

Thank you for reminding me of “I’m in the Lord’s Army” ! And for giving me the mental image of you riding an invisible horse – *much laughing remembering my young self*. And did everyone else also super-emphasize that last syllable when singing? When singing it was never “AHR-mee” but “ahr-MEE!”.

Also to Ruth and Jessica — yes, those too! What about the disciple song? I have remembered the 12 disciples long after I forgot everything taught to me in Sunday School because of that song. “There were twelve disciples Jesus called to help him, Simon, Peter, Andrew, James-his-brother-John”…

  • I so totally loved Grown-Up Kind of Pretty that I just had to tell you!!!
I am typing over a cat, so I may have some letters misplaced…

  • Tech note! Link to the actual post, dear Joss, so that people who stumble upon it later don’t get taken to the blog mainpage and have NO IDEA WHERE YOUR POST IS and scrollscrollscroll. 🙂

PS – How about The Once and Future Ansley?
