What is The Virtual Booksigning?

This is a plain and simple little post that explains the Virtual Book Signing, and explains how (and also why) you should participate in it. (Under why? see: Diabetic kibble. See also: Supporting my work, because you want to allow me the privilege of continuing to write novels because you are a glorious human being of taste and substance.)

On the tour, I will visit Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, N and S Carolina, Louisiana and Virginia. If you live in one of those states, check the locs on The Actual Tour, and come see me! We will have fun. Pinky Swear. If not, you can be a part of The Virtual Tour—you can order a signed, first edition, first printing copy of A GROWN-UP KIND OF PRETTY from The Alabama Booksmith. On February 9th, the day of my Booksmith tour stop, I will sign and personalize all the ordered copies, and the fine folks there will get them out to you.

You will be supporting ME, literally, which means you get to help keep Schubert the one-eyed pirate cat stocked with his UNIMAGINABLY EXPENSIVE diabetic cat food, and also supporting independent bookstores, and ALSO…

Beloveds, I am proud of this book—I think you will LIKE IT, and everyone from Publisher’s Weekly to Library Journal to Kirkus to Family Circle to The Atlantic thinks you will like it. Heck, Book List gave it a you-will-like-this-book STAR and they all called it nice things, like “mesmerizing” and “best yet” and “compelling.” These are very good words that I like to whisper to encouragingly to the cat as he snarfs up his diabetic kibble.

Even if you are secretly illiterate like every teenage guest star on 80’s sit coms turned out to be, a Cig Harvey photograph graces the cover; you need a spare copy just to GAZE at.

There will also be PRIZE DRAWINGS at the event. If you win the grand prize, you will have to wait, but it will be worth it. I am going to give away a copy of Cig Harvey’s YOU LOOK AT ME LIKE AN EMERGENCY. She is the amazing art photographer whose work has been used on my last two covers. Go browse her website and LOOK at the pictures— they set my brain on fire. In the good way. There will also be runner-up prize packets that will include back list signed paperback and a small but probably delightful surprise that may or may not be shaped like a monkey. Also maybe chocolate. I will add a runner up prize for every 25 participants, so the odds never go down. And yes, you get one entry per book, not per order.

You can learn more about the book HERE.

You can download and read the first chapter HERE.

You can skip all the flirting, get riiiight to it and full on Participate HERE.

  • I hope to be able to see you in Charlotte! Will try to contain excitement, no promises though!!

  • :::wanders off to see if Audible has the audio version::: Granted, I’ll buy a print version, too, but listening to the audio of “Backseat Saints” during some very long training walks made the miles pretty much melt away. 30 miles in 2 days, barely noticed the blisters I was so engrossed…

  • Soooo excited, just pre-ordered for delivery to my Kindle Fire on the 25th, so can’t wait to read!

  • Clarification: So if I’m coming to the event at the Alabama Booksmith on February 9th, am I entered in the contest? Or do I need to preorder?

  • Summer

Yay!! I hope I can go to Lemuria on the 31st! If not, I’ll do the virtual tour!

Will there be an audio version, too? Love your audiobooks!!

  • Jessica

Yay! I signed up yesterday. (Rather, I tried to order about fifteen times and it wouldn’t accept any of my captchas — on any of my browsers. So I made my husband do it, and it went through on the first try. Of course.)

When are you coming back to Minnesota? Please come back to Minnesota!

  • Linda J

Is it bad that I set a goal that I will not allow myself to read it until I finish crocheting my nephews blanket? I am pushing and pushing myself like nobody’s business to get the darned thing done. I can not wait for it!!!

  • Lora in Florida

Ok one visit to Pensacola is not a Florida tour! Don’t you need an Orlando vacation? Please?? And then a book signing once you are there?? I will come and bring all my friends…:)

  • AH I’m all the way in Oklahoma… How did this fine state not make the book tour? Ha… Good luck and have fun!

January 25th is A LONG LONG TIME FROM NOW! I keep trying to download it to my Kindle Fire and … nothing. SQUEEEEEEEEEEE I CAN’T WAIT TO READ IT!!!!

  • I work at BN and since AGUKOP isn’t SOS I thought today, I should see if it shipped yet. And lo, there it was. so I bought my pre-ordered copy and hand-sold one of the ones the store had ordered in. And I put it in prime real estate on the new fiction table, and gave a couple people your name and titles (wrote down for them) after ranting for five straight minutes about how excited I was to see your book out. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know what *I’m* doing tonight. ;)

I just ordered my signed copy — yay! No way I’ll be able to wait, though, so I’m also going to pre-order on the Kindle so I can get it as soon as it’s available.

Now if only yer dern publisher would send you to San Diego……

  • Danielle

Does the Alabama Booksmith ship only in USA?
If so, do you know when your book will be available in Canada?

  • So is it odd that I’m buying the Kindle version to read and the hardcover version to have? It took me a while to get the VBS order to go through – I think it didn’t like my Mozilla Firefox settings, so I installed Google Chrome and it went right through.

  • Michelle-who-is-Shelley

I did the signed copy through The Alabama Booksmith for your last two books, but it was TORTURE waiting so long to read your new book, so this time I have decided that I have plenty examples of your handwriting around my house (and a lovely fox doll) and I pre-ordered it through Amazon. I have been notified that it is already making its way to me via USPS. YAY!

  • Jill Sturgeon

I bought one at Barnes and Noble yesterday b/c I couldn’t wait until the 25th – I will buy one from Jake at AL Booksmith when you come in Feb. – yippee!

  • Will this book come to audible? I love listening to your books. I’ve been saving my audible credit all month for this book, but the book is not listed in ther “coming soon” section. Can I get an answer?
