Comments: 3 Conversations with Beautiful Maisy, who is Barely 5

I guess Maisy figured if you'd stealed her then, while that might make you evil, OTOH she might still have a shot at that "looking like a WEAL princess" deal, yes?

Would you please tell her for me that I've seen her picture and I think she's way more beautiful than some bland, boring princess, WEAL or not!

If you have not read "The Ordinary Princess" by M.M. Kaye. . .RUN to buy a copy. . .although I DO NOT like the cover they have out now--it makes her look like she's about 8, and she's not. . .but I will gladly mail you a copy of the REAL book with the REAL cover if you have an address (that you give out to FTK stalkers like me) to which I can send it. . .e-mail me and I will get one to you toot sweet. They were "getting rid" of the copies my school owns. . .and although they are paper back, it is the ORIGINAL printing with the author's illustrations and everything. GAH!!! And even if Maisy does NOT appreciate the sentiment of the book right now, you will, and someday so will she.

Those downy brows look like an entity unto themselves. Oh. My.

Oh, dear. Will you please tell Miss Maisy that all of your regs here think you're MUCH PRETTIER than any WEAL princess?

Posted by Aimee at May 16, 2007 10:43 AM can that breathtaking little bit not think she is MORE beautiful than a WEAL princess? And to put a finer point on it...smarter, kinder and funnier than anything the Disney machine could churn out.

I've got to say we've never been big fans of the mouse in this house. Even less so now.

Maisy Jane is gorgeous! And so are you for that matter!!

Posted by Caren at May 16, 2007 11:00 AM

Oh, Miss Maisy Jane!! Did she ever decide whether you and Scott were evil?

I'll bet she ends up with many, many suitors who think she's a WEAL princess and you and Scott will have to fight them off.

Posted by Deborah P at May 16, 2007 12:17 PM

I'm a little bit thinking about stealing that girl. Of course, get her into a room with my girl and the results might be more than we can handle. ;)

Posted by Mir at May 16, 2007 12:19 PM

...mmmm, Chicken soup for the travling daddy's soul.

If she thinks I'm evil now, just wait til she sees how many suitors I will no doubt plant in our back yard.

Posted by Mr. Husband at May 16, 2007 12:24 PM

Maisy Jane is not only beautiful, she obviously is a deep thinker! Seems like a lot of her mama in that one.

I have always wanted to say (~back when I was too shy to post~) that the pic of Maisy meeting a "weal Disney princess" was one of the most heart tugging photos I've ever seen. Such a depiction of childhood innocence, when dreams really do come true. If you could bottle that feeling, you could cure the world's ills!!

Posted by Tami Lee at May 16, 2007 12:27 PM

Oh, mi gosh how adorable. Joss my dear, you and Mr. Hubby will have your hands full, but you'll be laughing the whole time. Remind Scott to use lots of lye and plant tomatoes.

Posted by Cele at May 16, 2007 12:46 PM

OMG! ROTFLMAO I think that's the most priceless thing I've ever heard. And what a thinker! Woe be unto you, dear Joss, when she hits puberty. *still laughing*

Posted by David at May 16, 2007 1:54 PM

You and Maisy are as pretty as can be!

Her doubts about her beauty make me think that the real evils are Disney and Barbie.

Posted by Elizabeth at May 16, 2007 2:00 PM

I think that's a WEAL firecracker you've got there. And I'll take a firecracker over a princess any day. Watch out, Miss Maisy, I might just be evil enough to steal you!

Posted by Amy-Go at May 16, 2007 2:03 PM

Oh dear! That lil' girl has some deeeep thoughts. She is a sweet, cute little princess and should never forget it!!

On a related note, I just opened a box from to find 2 copies of Between, Georgia!!! I ordered one for me to reread and (shh) one for my best friend who will visit in 2 weeks. SO EXCITED!!!

News FLash --- get use to the "You Are Evil" thing. I happens right around when little girls begin to truly believe that they are real life ordinary princesses, and--get this--life as you know it can NOT possibly have any true meaning without a cell phone, weekly trip to the mall, unlimited text messaging (Did I mention the cell phone), the latest shirt, pair of jeans, and or shoes from some OBSCENELY expensive store.

Daddies feed this frenzy because Mommies are the ones who say, "YOU are not leaving this house dressed like THAT!!!" This conversation is often followed by the, "You are EVIL" statement, whereupon I often remind myself that we told her daily, if not hourly, she was indeed a princess.

But fear not, says my mother, grown daughters return to the nest, do ladies lunch with their moms, and take them to test the best lemon martinis in town. So the paybacks are coming....

Oh how she makes me laugh!

Dear Princess Maisy,

The kingdom is growing bigger each day. Back when you were borned we started building it so that when you were all growed up - like 13 - you could come here and claim the throne like the weal princess that you are.

We were looking specifically for a child with the biggest, prettiest blue eyes on the planet. That's you.

Just so you know, sometimes people who are old can't see crowns, so even if someone tells you you aren't a princess, you can know that they just can't see the crown on your head.

Posted by Heather Cook at May 16, 2007 6:33 PM

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!! A girl with wit is *so* much prettier than any princess! I had to read this aloud to my husband because I was laughing so hard.

Maisy is adorable!!

And LOL at Mr. Husband's comment.....

Is there an echo in here? My mother, who is slipping into senile dementia, has taken to insisting that some woman left me with her mother, and they decided to keep me. She did not "born" me. Or steal me either, for that matter. Ain't life grand?

Posted by ZaZa at May 17, 2007 12:56 AM

Meant to say, too, that Maisy is a perfect little beauty, and I bet she's going to be an unbelievable handful. A more unbelievable handful than she already is. ;+)

Posted by ZaZa at May 17, 2007 1:01 AM

Would you please show that child a picture of Princess Anne or Princess Margaret, etc, so that she can see that she is right. She does NOT look like a Weal Princess. Thank heaven. Most Weal princesses complain to their mommies that they are not as pretty as the beautiful Miss Maisy Jane.

Also? If you DID steal her? Who could blame you? Look at that child. Who WOULDN"T want her? Perhaps you should fit her with Lojack just to be safe...

Posted by buffi at May 17, 2007 1:08 AM

Yes, Buffi, I too was thinking that most real princesses I can think of have rather a horsey look. Miss Maisy Jane is much more scrumptious than that!

Posted by Brigitte at May 17, 2007 6:56 AM

I do love me the Maisy-isms. But she is WAY prettier than a real princess. And so, Ms. Jackson, are you.

Posted by jennielynn at May 17, 2007 10:52 AM

Aren't conversations with 4 & 5 year olds the best? One day my husband was asking our four year old, "Don't you want to be just like Daddy when you grow up?" and my four year old son replied "Yes, Daddy, except I want to have hair."

I forgot to post about this yesterday, but thanks for updating your reading list. I've read and enjoyed several things that were on your bookshelf.

I met Cassandra King a couple of weeks ago -- she was sooo nice. I had just finished reading "Same Sweet Girls" based on your rec. I told her that I had first heard about her on your blog and that you had highly recommended her. She seemed very pleased.
